Anisinabe Wisdom, Knowledge, Power and Prophesies.

So I have been researching my Ojibwe culture thinking I may find some answers to some questions I have in regards to spirituality. The thing I find most interesting so far is the distinction of Knowledge, power, and wisdom.
One of the things the Ojibwe culture has pointed out to me was that knowledge was intune with wisdom and not power. Today people Classify Knowledge as power and I am starting to think that is wrong. Our western society is about power, control, and domination/expansion (however you want to phrase it). Knowledge can be about power but those who use it for power I think has the objective to want to control and dominate and use power to their needs and objectification. Where as the difference is the Old Genuine Ways of many indigenous peoples across the globe believe that Knowledge goes together with Wisdom. The more Wisdom you have and the knowledge to back it up the more connected you are to mother earth or female diety you choose. The difference is the people who decide to use knowledge to gain wisdom instead of power, you get people who practice humility, who respect not only the earth but also the gifts the earth gives us, as well as the wisdom to think things through before acting, respecting elders and authority figures, knowing when to speak and when not to speak, and to know that patience can be well rewarded.

People who use knowledge for power don't have the wisdom to know how to use that power correctly without corrupted principles. Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely and I think that is what is wrong with society today. Many people have allowed themselves to delve into the illusions of Power without understanding wisdom first, and go with true morality. From what I hear and remember from past lives, the most powerful people were ones that were wise and kind and it just wasn't because of their Spiritual gifts but the ability to grow wise with those gifts and not use power for thier own motives but to help their people. Either by contacting dead ancestors or healing with all the herbs earth that provides for us already. The only problem is I do believe Earth is dying because of what man has done to the environment due to wanting power, control and a high social status to do whatever it is they want to do without much repercussions. That is another discussion for another day. My point is that the old ways incorporates a wisdom that is being lost to generations and that knowledge isn't supposed to be about power.

"Western civilization, unfortunately, does not link knowledge and morality but rather, it connects knowledge and power and makes them equivalent. Today with an information `superhighway' now looming on the horizon, we are told that a lack of access to information will doom people to a life of meaninglessness -- and poverty. As we look around and observe modern industrial society, however, there is no question that information, in and of itself, is useless and that as more data is generated, ethical and moral decisions are taking on a fantasy dimension in which a `lack of evidence to indict' is the moral equivalent of the good deed." - Vine Deloria

Most importantly there is the 7 teachings of the Anisinabe (Ojibwe) people. They are as follows:

The Seven Teachings of the Anishinaabe
(The People-- the Ojibwe, the Odowa and the Potawatome)

Honesty
To achieve honesty within yourself,
To recognize who and what you are ,
Do this and you can be honest with all others

Humility
Humble yourself and recognize that
No matter how much you think you know,
You know very little of all the universe.

Truth
To learn truth,
To live with truth, and
To walk with truth,
To speak truth

Wisdom
To have wisdom is to know the difference between good and bad, and
To know the result of your actions

Love
Unconditional love to know that when people are weak
They need your love the most,
That your love is given freely, and
You cannot put conditions on it
Or your love is not true

Respect
Respect others, their beliefs, and
Respect yourself.
If you cannot show respect,
You cannot expect respect to be given

Bravery
To be brave is to do something right
Even if you know it's going to hurt you.

Why is morality seen as fantasy? I think these 7 Ojibwe morale principles could enhance lives. Also there are a lot of people out there who need these lessons in their life. Not only that but in none of the 7 teachings is there a lesson on gaining power for yourself. Then there are the 7 prophesies that I think should be made note here because it basically describes the history of the Anishinabe people. The only one that has not been fulfilled is the very last one where I think we are in the process of fulfilling as we speak.

The Prophecy of the Seven Fires
according to The Mishomis Book by Edward Benton Banai

The Sacred Megis of the Ojibwe
The megis is a cowrie shell, very sacred to the Ojibwe.   Through the megis Creator breathed life into all beings.

Seven prophets appeared to the people.  The First Prophet told the people that in the time of the First Fire they would leave their homes by the sea and follow the sign of the megis.  They were to journey west into strange lands in search of a island in the shape of a turtle.  This island will be linked to the purification of the earth.  Such an island was to be found at the beginning and at the end of their journey.  Along the way they would find a river connecting two large sweet water seas.  This river would be narrow and deep as though a knife had cut through the land.  They would stop seven times to create villages but they would know that their journey was complete when they found food growing on the water.  If they did not leave, there would be much suffering and they would be destroyed.  And they would be pursued and attacked by other nations along the way so they must be strong and ready to defend themselves.

The Second Prophet told them they could recognize the Second Fire because while they were camped by a sweet water sea they would lose their direction and that the dreams of a little boy would point the way back to the true path, the stepping stones to their future.

The Third Prophet said that in the Third Fire the Anishinabe would find the path to the lands prepared for them and they would continue their journey west to the place where food grows upon the water.

The Fourth Prophet was two who came as one.  The first told them to expect a race of people who had light skin.  The future of the Anishinabeg would be known by the face the light-skinned people would wear.  If they come in brotherhood there would be a time of wonderful change.  New knowledge would be joined with the old knowledge and the two peoples would join to make a mighty nation.  Two other nations would join to make four and they would become the mightiest nation of all.  If they brought only their knowledge and their good-will they would be like brothers.

The second being of the Fourth Prophet warned the light-skinned race might wear the face of death that would almost look the same as the face of brotherhood.  "If they come carrying a weapon and if they seem to be suffering, beware.  Behind this face is greed.  You shall recognize the face of death if the rivers are poisoned and the fish are unfit to eat."

The Fifth Prophet said that in the time of the Fifth Fire there will be a struggle between the way of the mind of the light-skinned people and the natural path of spirit of the many nations of natural people.  "As this fire loses its heat there will come among the people those who promise great joy and salvation.  If the people accept this promise and abandon the old ways, the struggle will continue for many generations.  This promise is false and it will nearly destroy those who accept it."

The Sixth Prophet told them that in the time of Sixth Fire it would be clear that the promise accepted during the Fifth Fire was false.  "Those who were deceived by this promise will take their children away from the teachings of the elders.  The elders will lose their purpose in life and many will become sick and die.  Many people will be out of balance and the cup of life will become the cup of grief."

The Seventh Prophet was younger than the others who had come and there was a glowing light from his eyes.  He said that there would come a time when the waters had been so poisoned that the animals and plants that lived there would fall sick and begin to die.  Much of the forests and prairies would be gone so the air would begin to lose the power of life.*  The way of the mind brought to the red, black, and yellow nation by the white nation would bring danger to the whole earth.  In this time there will arise Osh-ki-bi-ma-di-zeeg, a new people who will emerge from the clouds of illusion.  They will retrace their steps to find the treasures that had been left by the trail.  The stories that had been lost will be returned to them.  They will remember the Original Instructions and find strength in the way of the circle.  Their search will take them to the elders and the new people will ask for guidance.  But many of the elders will have walked the Path of the Souls to the Star Web.  Many elders will have forgotten their wisdom and they will not be able to help.  Some of the elders will point in the wrong direction and others will remain silent because of their fear.  Some of the elders will be silent because no one has asked them for their wisdom.

If the New People will find trust in the way of all things, in the circle, they will no longer need the selfish voice of the ego and they can begin to trust their inner voice.  Wisdom will be once again be found in dreams of the night and of the day.  The sacred fire will once again be lit.  The Light-skinned People will be given a choice between two paths.  If they choose the right path the Seventh Fire will light the Eighth Fire and final fire of  brotherhood and sisterhood.  If they choose the wrong path, remaining on the path of the mind, then the destruction they brought with them will come back to destroy them.  The people of the earth will experience much suffering and death.

I think this last prophesy has been happening and is still in the process of occurring.  I think the reason many people are going away from the church these days is so they can find their way back to the oldest traditions. This includes Celtic and druid magick, as well as ancient Native American ways. This is important because I believe people are trying to come back to the basic 7 teachings of life and re-find the inner wisdom that was once lost by Western civilization.

Updates and Native American pulls

So I haven't written much lately because I have been busy and haven't really had the chance to write more spells or make things. Until today. I made another dream catcher. I made one for my boyfriend for is birthday this weekend, and I made it out of a twig. I can't post  picture due to a malfunctioning camera. I am hoping to buy another one.

I have gotten a new job and I am super excited about it. I think for the first time in my life I will be able to live out on my own after 6 months of getting paid and working on getting out of debt. I am very excited about this so I been doing research, and I'm hoping to start getting things in motion.

Then lately I have been researching Ojibwe culture because I am part Ojibwe. I have been wanting to find a system that works for me and I am starting to feel close to the Ojibwe culture. While growing up I went into secondary culture class because my dad and my grandma are/were registered Ojibwe Native Americans.  I grew up learning about the medicine wheel and the old ways but I was also brought up Christian. It was always fun making things but back then I didn't understand what exactly I was being taught. I took the teachings and pushed them in the back of my mind when college started until these past few weeks. Over the last year I have had dreams about myself and Native Americans. I have seen totems in my dreams, I have seen myself as a medicine woman, I have seen a bear moon as a bear on a moon, as well as a dream when I was younger and dreamed of sacred animals. which my animal totem is a bear. I have had others but I don't remember them at the moment. I have been reading up on the ojibwe prophesies and there is one where it has yet to be fulfilled. The last one is about people coming back to the roots of spirituality and being guided by spirit instead of with the mind. Or something like that, and that humans are going to destroy themselves if they don't get back in tune with mother earth and father sky. Also there will be leaders who help humanity into a new age. I think maybe part of this prophecy is going to happen in 2012. There are so many different prophesies about 2012 that in a way they are all the same but yet all different at the same time. I do believe something is going to go down in 2012. Humans are in for an awakening.

But anyway my point with this is, I feel closer to my ojibwe haritage as I review all the things I learned as a child, such as the ojibwe medicine wheel. I looked up pictures of it online and I remember the real medicine wheel looked a lot different. It was in a cross not in an ex and yell was in the direction of east. Red, direction of south black direction of west and white direction of north. Some of the pictures get red and yellow mixed up or black and white mixed up on the opposite sides of the wheel and I'm like WTF! This is all wrong! I'm a little angry about this. Because this is misrepresenting a culture and a way of living. Your mixing up the wrong directions with the wrong colors! how dare you! Aside from the appalling misguided representation of the medicine wheel iteself, I have also been learning about the vast horrors of what they did to the indigenous peoples from 1850's to 1970's and the boarding school system of taking children away from parents and putting them into abusive situations. Everyone thinks the white way is better but yet why is it that every time the white culture invades another country or culture there's always more death than there should be? Even today it is happening and our president is Black! Shouldn't he know better?

Why can't we create a more peaceful world? Humanity is corrupted by their own minds because they can't listen with their heart or their spirit. The rich worry about profits and are greedy, where the poor worry about when and where they will get their next meal from and are needy. Then the people in between want to help balance the social herarchy but they cant because its all about power and control and domination. WTF? How are we ever going to evolve if we can't even get past this belief system? Then Christians wonder why so many people are leaving the church in pursuit of finding their own way to spirituality?

Well the Church helped create this world too and Christianity is what influenced the white men. Oh they must be 'savages' because they don't believe in god! we must save their poor souls before they go to hell! We must do that by beating them and taking away everything they hold dear! Because if we don't God forbid we will be stricken down by the hands of God himself!. Gee wiz. Now isn't that just ridiculous? Nobody really needs saving unless they choose to do bad things. Sex is apart of nature so it is not a sin. Magick is not a sin because Jesus did it too. And most importantly God doesn't Hate GLBT, Blacks, Native American Indians, or Asians at all. God doesn't hate anyone or anything. If this Christian God exists, he doesn't hate in general or is not supposed to according to the bible he is all loving and merciful and yet people kill in the name of God because we are supposed to hate what God Hates? Screw that! The real sins of this world is murder (in every brutal way possible including all types of holocausts), rape, neglecting your brothers, sisters (we are all brothers and sisters) and neighbors (we are all neighbors) who are in need of help, or not speaking up the truth when speaking the truth matters most.  The thinking is you can't help them all but if you help one or two people a day it will cause a ripple effect and I think everyone could get the help they need eventually if someone just takes the time to be compassionate and empathetic. Native Americans looked after each other in way our current society does not. Sorry this is ranting. Wasn't going to rant but I did.

Discliamer: I do not hate Christians. There are many Christians who see this and choose different paths or know it is wrong and I am glad of that. I also know there are many open minded Christians who do not judge that way and this rant isn't intended for all Christians. It's meant to ask the questions that need to be asked about Christian History and how they shaped the world since 1400's when Columbus "discovered" America and the Native American Holocausts began. I am just merely saying that it is because of such power/control thinking from puritans and the early denominational churches that first colonized and settled here. Maybe back then they had the best of intentions and felt that what they were doing was right, but obviously its so wrong and many have learned that lesson but there are still others who have not.

Another thing I have been looking into is ojibwe cultural meaning of the dream catcher and what is traditional v.s. today's version. I have found lots of interesting information on the story of the dream catcher about how the Anishinabe people's spider spirit/goddess couldn't look over all the children during the great migration, and that a medicine man/ seer got a message to make a spider web dream catcher and that it will protect the children until they can find the island that looks like a turtle. I really like that story. Dream Catchers in n essence is a protection symbol like the cross, and the pentagram. I like a lot of the stories I been finding that teaches morality to children. There's all kinds of gifts ojibwe people have. There are those who are born to be warriors, medicine men/woman, wise elders, and those that can phophesize, and those that can see spirits or be more in tune with the spirits. Most importantly they were all equal. Their professions didn't make one person better than the other and women were treated with respect. The cyle of life and the earth was treated with respect. While now the earth is dying by human pollution and digging up all the fuel and oils we can. I hope this world lasts long enough for the domestic integration of wind energy and solar panel energy. That could help a lot.. sorry Im ranting again.. I guess I am ranting. My more educational blog about Ojibwe Native Americans will come some other time. For now I'm going to shut up before I end up ranting 50 more pages. Later all.

Herbal Remedies for Reproductive Health!

Some of us women have lived with irregular cycles all our life and possibly it effects our fertility. One of my issues is I normally have irregular periods and a lot of times I feel I have an unnatural cycle because when I do get my period I don't bleed as much as some other women do. I feel menstruation is a part of womanhood, and part of magick. Sometimes I wonder what is wrong with me? Maybe nothing but I have been doing some research on herbal remedies, dietary supplements, and various causes and conditions.

Some research I have found, however is about Herbal teas, and herbalism.  These herbs found in general to help menstruation cycle normalize. I got this information at sisterzeus.com. Basically it is describing Emmenagogues and which herbs are Emmenagogues. It says thus: "Emmenagogues are substances which have the ability to provoke menstruation. They can work in a variety of ways, but the end result is menstruation. Its action can be mild or strong depending on the herb."

The list of herbs that help with fertility and regulating the cycle are as follows:

Mild Emmenagogues:
These include Parsley, Ginger, Yarrow, Feverfew, Rosemary and Sage. For more information on these herbs

Medium Strength Emmenagogues:
Parsley, Queen Anne's Lace Seeds, Black Cohosh, Mugwort, Juniper.

Strong Emmenagogues Include: Several of these herbs are also listed as abortifacients, which I have given a page of its own. You can find more information about these herbs there.
Pennyroyal, Angelica, Savin, Rue, Tansy, Asafetida, Blue Cohosh, and Vitamin C, celery seed, birthwort.

Uterine Contracting Herbs Include:
Herbs with Oxytocic properties
- these herbs induce uterine contractions by stimulating oxytocin.
Blue Cohosh, Cotton Seed/Root, Angelica and Marijuana
Herbs containing Thujone Thujone is a volatile oil found in several plants known to be a uterine stimulant. Anyone with a tendency toward epileptic seizures should not use herbs containing thujone.
Tansy, Mugwort, Juniper berries, Chamomile.
Misc Uterine Contracting Herbs These herbs have unique properties which cause uterine contractions:
Angelica Root, Blue Cohosh, Ginger, Parsley, Pennyroyal, and Rosemary

Herbs which Stimulate the Uterus This is desirable to aid in dislodging the fertilized egg.
Angelica, Black Cohosh, Ginger, Horseradish, Queen Anne's Lace Seeds/Root

Herbs which contain Estrogenic Properties These herbs can cause estrogen-like side effects including abnormal blood clotting, liver problems and aggravate estrogen-dependent tumors
Black Cohosh, Blue Cohosh, QAL, Pomegranate seeds

Antispasmodic Herbs The abortive properties are believed to possibly result from the relaxant action on the uterus, causing inhibition of movement to such an extent that an abortion occurs.
Black Cohosh

Implantation Inhibiting Herbs These herb interfere with the implantation of a fertilized egg, they are generally used after fertilizing intercourse until menstruation is due. For more information Herbal Contraceptives & Implantation Inhibitors
Cotton Root, Juniper Root, Queen Anne's Lace Seeds, Vitamin C, Rue/Rutin.

These herbs are mainly to Induce Menstruation early, and if taken in moderation probably could help normalize cycles, however, beware that some of these can be toxic. Too much can cause serious problems in health. I suggest following the doses that are recommended by a herbalist.

One herb that I have found that normalize cycles and are good for promoting reproduction health in general is Raspberry leaves:

"Raspberry leaf (Rubus species) is a member of the Rosaceae family. The leaves are rich in the important minerals calcium, magnesium, and iron.

Raspberry leaves have been regarded as a universal herb for women. They have been introduced to young girls beginning their menses as a welcome ritual to help them through their changes. Raspberry leaves can help alleviate menstrual cramps, reduce erratic food cravings, and curb excessive bleeding.

Raspberry leaf tea has long been used to increase fertility. Pregnant women in China, Europe, and North and South America have all used this herb as a tea for a wide range of female health concerns. Even pregnant cats have been known to seek out the leaves and eat them!

When used during pregnancy, raspberry leaves help to relieve morning sickness, prevent spotting, and improve blood quality thus preventing anemia.

Besides being consumed regularly during pregnancy, women often drink raspberry tea during labor. This is because raspberry leaves contain an alkaloid called fragarine, which is said to make labor easier due to its effectiveness as a tonic for the pelvic muscles and uterus.

When taken after birthing, raspberry tea facilitates placental delivery, helps decrease uterine swelling, and helps prevent postpartum bleeding. Drinking raspberry tea until the time of birthing is so nutritious, it helps to ensure that the colostrum (the first breast milk) will be especially rich. However, it is not used excessively during lactation due to its astringent properties that can decrease milk supply.

When menopausal women use raspberry leaf, it helps promote healthy uterine tone and minimize hot flashes"

Herbs are a great way to get the vitamins and minerals your body needs in order to promote reproductive health. However sometimes Reproductive issues is also a result from a manganese deficiency.

"Manganese activates the enzymes responsible for the utilization of several key nutrients including biotin, thiamin, ascorbic acid, and choline. It is a catalyst in the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol, facilitates protein and carbohydrate metabolism, and may also participate in the production of sex hormones and maintaining reproductive health" (http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=77)

So Basically getting more Manganese in your diet can be a way to help normalize mensuration as well. Some foods that I have found, at the same source up above, are mustard greens, kale, chard, raspberries, pineapple, romaine lettuce, Collard Greens and Maple Syrup.  (http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=77).

Again Rasberries come up! I think it is clear that Raspberries are good for your reproductive health! Anyway another way to get plenty of Manganese is to take Multivitamins that are specified for a woman's health. An example is One a Day Woman's.

Another recent finding is Motherwort herb. It can induce menstruation for late periods, however it is also a herb for heart health and for depression. It acts similar to hawthorn berry's in the sense it goes to your nervous system and you feel a little sleepy. Note I am not a herbalist but I am studying herbalism on my own. The reccomended doses I have found through research is one teaspoon of motherwort in boiling hot water. Drink when it cools. However it is more effective if you combine Motherwort with Basil (which is a cooking herb that is also good for menstruation) or organic Raspberry leaf. Who says you can't combine all three? Also Motherwort is fairly powerful so do not take while pregnant. It can be taken during labor to ease labor pains or after labor but not during pregnancy.

Also another disclaimer, I know these methods might not help everyone. I know there are severe cases where these herbs probably wont do much good. I am sorry if that is the case. This is to help those who can benefit from herbal remedies instead of birth control to regulate menstruation.

Vitamin C, B1, B2, and B6 are also vitamins that are needed for a healthy reproduction system. If you are lacking in any of these vitamins, it might cause menstruation issues just like any lack of Vitamins can cause lack of nourishment.

Anyway as for me I have been on and off drinking Raspberry leaf teas. I don't really like tea that much but I am going to try and drink it more regularly to see if I get any results.
